The Kitchen
A home is made of many rooms
To rest, to sleep, to shower,

We have a nice flat in a new block of flats. Our flat is on the fourth floor. It has all modern conveniences: central heating, gas, electricity, cold and hot water, a lift and a chute to carry rubbish down. There are three rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a hall in our flat. The living-room is the largest and most comfortable room in the flat. In the middle of the room we have a square-table with six chairs round it. To the right of the dinner-table there is a wall-unit which has several sections: a sideboard, a wardrobe and some shelves.
At the opposite wall there is a piano and stool before it. Between the two large windows there is a little table with a colour TV set on it. Near the TV set there are two cosy armchairs. A small round table, a divan-bed and a standard lamp are in the left-hand corner. This small table is for newspapers and magazines. My father is used to having a rest sitting on this divan-bed reading books, newspapers, magazines or watching TV.
The bedroom is smaller than the living-room and not so light as there is only one window in it. In this room there are two beds with a bedside-table between them. An alarm-clock and a small lamp with a pink lamp-shade are on the table. In the left-hand corner there is a dressing-table with a big mirror.. In this room we have a built-in wardrobe with coat-hangers to-hang clothes on. There is a thick carpet on the floor and plain light-brown curtains on the window.
The third room is my study. It is not large but very cosy. There isn’t much furniture in it, only the most necessary. It has a writing-table and an armchair before it. In the right-hand corner there is a bookcase full of books, magazines and newspapers. A small table with a radio is standing in the left-hand corner. Near it there is a sofa with some cushions. In my opinion, the study is the best room in our flat.
But the warmest place in our flat is the kitchen, I think – the place where the whole family gathers every evening not only to have supper together, but also to speak and rest. I like the English proverb: “My home is my castle” because my flat is, indeed, my castle.

Наша квартира на четвертом этаже, в ней есть все современные удобства: центральное отопление, газ, электричество, холодная и горячая вода, лифт и мусоропровод. В квартире три комнаты, кухня, ванная комната, прихожая. Гостиная – самая большая и удобная комната в квартире. В центре комнаты стоит квадратный обеденный стол и шесть стульев. Справа от стола стоит мебельная стенка. Она состоит из нескольких секций: серванта, шкафа, нескольких полок.
У противоположной стороны – пианино со стульчиком. Между двумя большими окнами находится маленький столик с цветным телевизором. Около телевизора два уютных кресла. В левом углу находится маленький круглый столик, диван и торшер. Этот маленький столик предназначен для газет и журналов. Папа привык отдыхать, сидя на диване, читать книги, газеты, журналы или смотреть телевизор.
Спальня меньше по размеру, чем гостиная, и не такая светлая, потому что в ней только одно окно. В этой комнате находятся две кровати и между ними тумбочка. На тумбочке стоит будильник и небольшая лампа с розовым абажуром. В левом углу – туалетный столик с большим зеркалом. В этой комнате есть встроенный шкаф с вешалками для одежды. На полу лежит толстый ковер, а на окнах висят однотонные светло-коричневые шторы.
Третья комната – мой кабинет. Она небольшая, но очень уютная. В ней мало мебели, только самое необходимое. Здесь находится письменный стол с креслом. В правом углу – книжный шкаф с книгами, журналами, газетами. Небольшой столик с радио стоит в левом углу. Возле него находится диван с подушками. По-моему, этот кабинет – самая лучшая комната в нашей квартире.
Но самое теплое место в нашей квартире – это кухня, место, где вся семья собирается каждый вечер не только для того, чтобы поужинать вместе, но также и для того, чтобы поговорить и отдохнуть. Мне нравится английская пословица: “Мой дом – моя крепость”, потому что моя квартира – действительно, моя крепость.

Our house is a short walk from the trolleybus stop. We live in panel house on the fourth floor. Our flat has all modern conveniences: central heating, gas, electricity, running cold and hot water, telephone, a lift and chute.
Our flat consists of three rooms, kitchen, bathroom and a hall. First there is a small hall with a mirror and small table with a telephone on it. The three rooms of our flat are: living-room, bedroom, my study.

The kitchen is handily arranged: there is a gas-stove, a frig, a deep sink, built-in cupboards and a table that folds against the wall when not in use. I like our flat very much.

В комнатах - пол паркетный, а в кухне - линолеум. В гостиной на полу лежит толстый ковер. Все комнаты оклеены обоями разных цветов и рисунков.
Гостиная -- самая просторная и удобная комната во всей квартире. Это - широкая комната с балконами. Посередине комнаты стоит стол с несколькими стульями вокруг него. В комнате есть диван, два кресла и с левой стороны телевизор на подставке. С правой стороны комнаты расположен шкаф, рядом - книжная полка.
Спальня меньше и не такая светлая. В ней две кровати, платяной шкаф и туалетный столик с зеркалом.
Комната, которая мне нравится больше всего, - моя учебная. Она милая и удобная. Там есть кровать, письменный стол и кресло. В правом углу - этажерка, полная книг, журналов, газет.
Кухня удобно оборудована: здесь есть газовая плита, холодильник, глубокая раковина, встроенные шкафы, стол, который можно складывать, когда им не пользуются. Мне очень нравится наша квартира.
I live in a new nine-storeyed block of flats in Pushkin Street. In front of the house there is a children’s playground and a small garden. We like to spend our time there.
Our flat is on the fourth floor. It is very comfortable. We have all modern conveniences such as central heating, electricity, gas, cold and hot running water and a telephone. There are three rooms in our flat: a living- room and two bedrooms.
Our living-room is the largest in the flat. It is nicely furnished. Opposite the wall you can see a nice cupboard. There is a colour TV-set in the corner. We are fond of books and have plenty of them at home. On the floor we have a nice thick carpet. The curtains on the window match the wallpaper. All this makes the room cosy.
Our bedrooms are also very nice and cosy. The parents’ bedroom is larger than the children’s. There is a big bed, a bedside table, some chairs and a wardrobe in it. There is a lovely carpet on the floor.
The children’s bedroom is just across the corridor on the right. Here you can see two sofa-beds where my sister and I sleep at night and have a rest in the day-time. There is also a writing-table, two chairs and some bookshelves here. We use our bedroom as a study where we do our homework. In the corner of the room there is a small table with a computer on it.
Our kitchen is rather large. There is a gas-stove, a refrigerator and a cupboard in which we keep cups, plates and all our dishes. The kitchen serves us as a diningroom. But when we receive guests or have our family celebrations we have the meals in the living-room. We are happy to have such a nice flat and try to keep it clean.

Над фортепиано- две картины. Рядом с ним- книжный шкаф. Мы любим книги и имеем их много у себя дома. На полу у нас - хороший толстый ковер. Шторы на окне подходят к обоям. Все это делает комнату уютной.
Наши спальни тоже очень красивые и уютные. Спальня родителей больше, чем детская. Там есть большая кровать, туалетный столик, несколько стульев, шкаф для одежды. На полу - прекрасный ковер.
Детская спальня - по коридору направо. Здесь вы можете увидеть два дивана-кровати, где моя сестра и я спим ночью, и отдыхаем в дневное время. Есть также письменный стол, два стула и несколько книжных полок. Мы используем нашу спальню, как кабитет, в котором делаем наши домашние задания. В углу комнаты есть небольшой стол, с компьютером на нем.
Наша кухня довольно велика. Здесь есть газовая плита, холодильник, шкаф, в котором мы держим чашки, тарелки и все наши блюда. Кухня служит нам и столовой. Но когда мы принимаем гостей или празднуем наши семейные торжества, мы едим в гостиной. Мы рады иметь такую славную квартиру и пытаемся сохранить её в чистоте.
My name is Tanya. I live in Minsk, the capital of Belarus. I live in Gerasimenko street in a large nine-storeyed house. Our flat is on the eighth floor. Our flat is not large but it is very cosy. There are two rooms in our flat. There is a living- room and a bedroom in our flat. There is a kitchen, a bathroom and a toilet there, too.
Our living-room is light and comfortable. There is only one window in it, but it’s very large. There is modern furniture in our living-room. Our bathroom is clean and nice. We wash hands and face, clean teeth in the bathroom. There is a bath and a sink with hot and cold water taps there.
I like to be at home, to play, to read books. There are a lot of books in our flat. I help my parents about the house and our flat is always clean and nice. I think, there is no place like home.
